The CUET UG 2026 is the mandatory gateway for admission into 47 Central Universities and over 300 participating colleges, including top state and private institutions. The 2026 session is particularly notable for its shift toward Computer-Based Testing (CBT) only, removing the hybrid model of previous years to ensure a standardized, tech-driven evaluation.

1. Key Dates and Registration Timeline

Students must adhere to the following timeline to avoid missing out on the 2026-27 academic session:

Registration Start Date: January 3, 2026
Registration Deadline: January 30, 2026 (up to 11:50 PM)
Last Date for Fee Payment: January 31, 2026
Correction Window: February 2 – February 4, 2026
Examination Dates: May 11 – May 31, 2026 (Tentative)

2. Major Changes: Stream Neutrality and Reduced Load

In a student-friendly move, NTA has introduced "Stream Neutrality," allowing candidates to choose domain subjects irrespective of their Class 12 background.

Subject Choices: The maximum number of subjects a student can pick has been reduced from 6 to 5. This usually includes one language, three domain subjects, and the General Test.
Reduced Subject List: The number of total subjects has been narrowed to 37. Interestingly, subjects like Legal Studies and Entrepreneurship have been discontinued as domain papers; admissions for these specific courses will now be based on General Aptitude Test scores.
Uniform Duration: Every subject exam now has a fixed duration of 60 minutes, streamlining the testing day for students taking multiple papers.

3. Exam Pattern and Scoring

The CUET 2026 pattern is designed to be objective and merit-based:

Mode: 100% Computer-Based Test (CBT).
Marking Scheme: Students earn +5 marks for every correct answer, while -1 mark is deducted for every incorrect response. There is no penalty for unattempted questions.
Sectional Breakdown:
Section IA (Languages): 13 languages (English, Hindi, etc.) tested through reading comprehension.
Section II (Domain): 23 subjects based strictly on the NCERT Class 12 syllabus.
Section III (General Test): Covers GK, Current Affairs, and Logical Reasoning.
